'She's so warm and intelligent': Tom Hiddleston on co-star Tilda Swinton at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of Only Lovers Left Alive

Tom Hiddleston may have made a solo appearance at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of Only Lovers Left Alive, but he had more than enough kind words for his co-star Tilda Swinton.

The British actors take on the leads in Jim Jarmusch’s romantic vampire tale, in which they play two lovers who have been together for centuries, but reunite when one feels disillusioned with the state of the world.

Speaking to Mail Online on the red carpet Saturday night, Tom, 32, said the reason he took on the role was because of the director and his ethereal co-star: ‘Tilda is an amazing woman. She’s so warm, so wise and intelligent and it was a real pleasure to work with her.’

So to play an immortal virtuoso, Hiddleston must know his way around a few instruments.

'I play the guitar in the film,' Tom explains. 'I also play the violin in the film alone, and a lute. The character I plays is a prodigious musical genius.

'I hasten to add, I am not!'

So with all these musical talents, Tom is well set up to follow in the long line of actors who have moved into the musical landscape and released their own album.

But sadly for T-Hiddy fans, that moment won’t be coming any time soon.

'I think that would be a bad idea!' Tom laughed.

With an ever-expanding movie career, that answer isn’t too surprising.

Only Lovers Left Alive will be in UK cinemas February 21 2014
